About T|S|P

Your Journey…

We’ll help you to find the right therapist.

  • You can speak to our admin team on 01722 324343 Mon-Fri 9-2.00pm or email admin@thesalisburypractice.co.uk at any time. They know our practitioners/therapists well and can carefully enquire with them on your behalf, providing you with a few options wherever possible based on availability and practitioner/therapist experience and whether you are self-funding or using private medical insurance. You can read about our team at TSP here.
  • Please note – If you are making an appointment for someone else who is over the age of 16yrs we will require their consent before offering an appointment.
  • You can speak to an experienced practitioner/therapist who can guide you in thinking about next steps. Ask for a free 15-20 min telephone appointment.
  • Occasionally, we may say that we cannot provide the right service for you.  If this is the case, we’ll explain why and try to suggest a more helpful alternative.
"

We’ll confirm an initial appointment date and time.

  • Provide you with directions to find our offices or
  • Send you a Telehealth link to your online appointment.
"

Before your first appointment we’ll share and gather a little more information.

  • We’ll write to tell you a little more about TSP, your practitioner/therapist and what to expect.  We will ask for your consent to keep written notes. (Your response to this is essential).
  • Your private communication with your practitioner/therapist will begin before your first session as we’ll send you a short questionnaire to gather more detailed information.  (Your response to this is optional). When you press ‘submit’, this will be returned automatically, directly into your clinical notes (without admin team intervention) so that your practitioner/therapist will already be planning how best to support you when you arrive.
  • You’ll receive an automated reminder of your appointment.
  • You can look at our rooms on our website if it helps you to plan.
"

We’ll welcome you to your first appointment.

  • Ring the doorbell and you’ll be greeted by your practitioner/therapist or one of our reception team and shown in to our comfortable and welcoming office spaces.
  • If online Click on the Telehealth link and your practitioner/therapist will meet you online.
  • Most initial appointments are 50-60 mins long.
  • Your practitioner/therapist will have read any information you previously provided and will guide you by asking you some questions about how things have been and what you’d most like to get from coming to therapy.
  • Towards the end of your first session, your practitioner/therapist will suggest an initial understanding of how they might help you, their approach to appointments and make a further appointment if you’d like to.
  • You can ask any questions at any time, as you need to.
"

Making continuing appointments.

  • Ongoing appointments will usually be 50-60 mins long and will typically be weekly, or fortnightly for a while, before being spread further apart.
  • You’ll make ongoing appointments with your practitioner/therapist usually, but you can also contact admin to change or make a new appointment.
  • Appointments will be aimed at talking, increasing understanding, making links, considering new ideas and approaches, planning experiments, keeping a careful check on how things are progressing for you.
  • Your practitioner/therapist will often ask you to think about your sessions between times, and to try out something new that you’ve agreed together and to let them know how that goes. Thinking about sessions between times will likely help your therapy to be more effective.
"

Planning your last appointment / ending therapy.

Whilst you can choose to end therapy at any time, it is usually more helpful to make a plan together with your practitioner/therapist about how long therapy should be.  This decision is often informed by:

    • How your therapist likes to work.  Some offer a limited number of sessions; others can offer open ended work.
    • Your readiness to end therapy and how things are improving for you.
    • Relevant research evidence about the type of therapy and length which tends to help specific difficulties relevant to you.
    • Financial constraints you might wish to consider.
    • Health insurance.
  • After therapy has ended, you can request a ‘top up’ appointment if you need to check in with your practitioner/therapist.

Our Story…

TSP (originally The Salisbury Practice) was founded in 2005 and incorporated in 2012 by myself, Steve Holmes, and my valued colleague Moira Presslee.

In my early years as a Psychologist, I noticed that my colleagues all wanted to provide the best service possible to their clients but were unable to do so because of challenges and restrictions in their environment.  They often had to stick to a minimal number of sessions, they were sometimes exhausted by long working hours in unwelcoming and unsupported clinical settings.

We wanted to offer a different service where clients could be welcomed by highly trained Psychologists and Practitioners, who’s natural drive to provide an excellent service was well supported by a comfortable venue and administrative support that enabled both client and therapist to engage in effective therapy as swiftly as possible.

We have been working ever since to build on offering the most effective talking therapies with an excellent, highly skilled, and happy Psychologist / Practitioner team.
